The Buildings Panel

Although outside our normal SW15 area, you may have read Andrew Catto’s comments in the Bulletin about the proposal to build 38 storey tower at the southern end of Battersea Bridge.
A planning application that has been submitted to Wandsworth Council to build a slightly lower 34 storey tower (!) which will blight the local residents on both sides of the river, change the existing river views and, during construction, bring traffic on Battersea Bridge to halt.
The Society Buildings Panel will be commenting on this serious breach of the new Local Plan which stipulates 6 storeys maximum.
You may also like to sign an online petition to the Council which has been raised by those concerned by this development.

Last Sunday eagle eyed residents spotted that the top of the lamps illuminating Putney Bridge had been changed overnight and the Society was as surprised as everyone else.
We have now been told they have been removed temporarily for restoration and will be reinstated when refurbished.

Inspired by Putney Society Meeting on "Modern Architecture in Putney & Roehampton" held in 2019, we have designed six self-guided walks which you can take to view interesting Putney and Roehampton buildings which you may love or loathe!
The walks are compiled by local geographic area - they cover East Putney, Putney Heath, Upper Richmond Road West, Roehampton Lane, the Embankment and Church Sq to the River Wandle.
To view or print out a walk please click on the link below:

The Putney Society Buildings Panel reviews all local Planning Applications against its Engagement Guidelines and, where appropriate, sends formal comments to the Planning Officer handling the case for Wandsworth Borough Council (WBC).
These comments are in the public domain when published on the WBC Planning website. However, the Executive Committee has decided that to provide members with a better insight into the work of the Panel they should also be published on the Society Website.
At their October 2024 meeting the Buildings Panel decided to not to comment on any application.
There was however lengthy discussion about the proposed change of use for the building at 160-162 Putney High Street from a public house to an adult gaming centre, but after a vote the Panel decided not to comment. The building has been empty for around 5 years.
