Head of the River Race 2025

HEAD OF THE RIVER RACE

Overlooked, perhaps, by the more famous University Boat Race, this rowing race are now major international participation event.

The .race has grown from 21 crews at its founding in 1926 to 400 crews in 2025 – all pitted against each other .

This year the event will take place on 22 March starting at 9.15am with each crew departing at 10 second intervals. The competition lasts for about two hours.

If you’re waiting at the finish line (Putney Bridge), the first boat should make its way there in about 20 minutes.

In 2024 Leander won closely followed by Oxford Brookes.
